COMMUNICATIONS AND OUTREACH COMMITTEE:
The Communications and Outreach Committee seeks to identify effective communication venues and implement strategies to effectively disseminate current and reliable information, resources and training opportunities to certified child passenger safety technicians and instructors. In addition, the Committee will work with the GTSC, CPS Advisory Board and local partners to develop and coordinate statewide campaigns targeting the general public and/or high-risk groups to promote appropriate child restraint use. The committee will also develop strategies to maintain current and solicit new technicians.
EDUCATION COMMITTEE
The education committee reviews current CEU material that is available to make sure that it is current and up to date. The committee also develops new CEU material for technicians and instructors within New York. This includes hand out material and power point presentations for CEU classes and renewal classes.
LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE
The Legislative Committee reviews federal, state and local bills that can strengthen child passenger safety laws and will advocate for passage of selected legislation with approval of the entire board. The Committee can also follow implementation and effects of legislation that is passed, including increasing awareness of child passenger safety legislation.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE
The Nominating Committee is charged with reviewing Resumes for Regional Representatives to the Board both at the conclusion of a member's term and in the event of a vacancy. All resumes with a bio for new appointees must be submitted on or before August 15th to the standing GTSC Representative. The resumes are then reviewed at the 2nd to last meeting of the year (September), or at the first meeting after a vacancy occurs. A slate of recommendations is put forth the GTSC management for review and approval. All accepted incoming members and outgoing members will be notified by mail by GTSC's director immediately following the decision. At the last meeting of the year, (December) any outgoing Board member should introduce the incoming member and can help the incoming member become familiar with the Board. It is assumed by the committee that, all else being equal, a new or non-sitting applicant will be considered a superior candidate to someone currently on the Board that has served at least one full 3 year term. The Nominating Committee will process nominations for the Executive Officers of the Board. A slate of Officers, chosen from the eligible Board Members will be put forth to the full Board at the last meeting of the year; should it become necessary, to solidify eligible nominations, the Nominating Committee will meet prior to the December meeting to officially codify a slate to the standing board for the December board meeting. The full Board may choose to accept the slate by a single unanimous vote or it may make additional nominations thus triggering a vote to be taken by secret written ballot of those members present at the meeting. Should a quorum not be present at the last meeting of the year, the vote will be taken at the first meeting of the following year from those members still seated from the previous year. All nominations to the Executive Officer positions are subject to GTSC approval.
STRUCTURE COMMITTEE
The structure committee adds deletes or makes changes to the advisory board bylaws when required. All such changes are then voted upon by board members for approval. If a change is approved by the board, it is then sent to the GTSC for review and approval.
