Operation SAFE STOP

DID YOU KNOW:
tri-red.gif (870 bytes) Between 1994 and 1997, 35 students in New York State were injured or killed by vehicles passing stopped school buses with red lights flashing. Moreover, every day in New York State, approximately 50,000 motorists illegally pass school busses stopped with red lights flashing.
THE LAW SAYS:
tri-red.gif (870 bytes) It is illegal for motorists to pass a stopped school bus when the large red lights located on top of the bus are flashing. Flashing lights mean the bus is picking up or discharging students.
tri-red.gif (870 bytes) Motorists must always stop for a school bus when its red lights are flashing, even on school grounds or on divided or multi-lane highways.
tri-red.gif (870 bytes) Motorists must always stop when a school bus’s red lights are flashing, whether approaching the bus from the front or overtaking it from the rear.
tri-red.gif (870 bytes) A first-time penalty for illegally passing a school bus is a $250 fine, 5 points on your driver license, and/or 30 days in jail. Worse yet, the memory of hitting or killing a child could be with you for the rest of your life!
REMEMBER:
