MOTORCYCLE ROAD TEST WAIVER COURSES NOW OFFERED AT NINE (9) SITES
Excerpts from NYS Department of Motor Vehicles Press Release --
June 11, 1997 |
Road
Test Waiver |
DMV will now waive the motorcycle road test requirement for
riders who complete the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course "Riding and Street
Skills". DMV Commissioner Richard E. Jackson, Jr. announced that motorcycle license
applicants now have a choice of nine sites to complete professional training by the
Motorcycle Association of New York State (MANYS) in lieu of a road test. Commissioner
Jackson noted that the program was expanded this spring in keeping with Governor Pataki's
call to make state government more responsive to the public. "Our new motorcycle
regulations represent an important advance in safety and convenience," he said.
"They not only ensure professional safety training for those who take the skills
course, they also simplify licensing procedures." |
Qualifications
& Costs |
To qualify for the road test waiver, the applicant must have:
- a valid New York State driver license,
- a valid motorcycle permit, and
- a course completion certificate issued by MANYS.
The 20-hour course is usually offered in weekend sessions that include both classroom
instruction and driving experience. The cost ranges from $100 to $350, and includes the
use of a motorcycle provided by MANYS. |
